Akutagawa

Project — 03
Keta Jikia

For the cover design of Ryūnosuke Akutagawa's The Christ of Nanjing, I selected one of my paintings that most closely reflects the story's emotional and psychological depth.

The fragmented lines, expressive gestures, and layered textures mirror the themes of compassion, sacrifice, and human vulnerability explored throughout the narrative.

Rather than illustrating a specific scene, the painting interprets the atmosphere of the story, translating its emotional tension and sense of isolation into a visual language.

Through this approach, the cover becomes an extension of the text itself, inviting the viewer to engage with the story before opening the book.
